Mele Kalikimaka!

Merry Christmas and Aloha!

Arrived in Honolulu yesterday afternoon.  Ruby realized we were in Hawaii and wanted to get a coconut. Makes sense: coconut, Hawaii, right?  We arrived at our hotel too early to check in so we went for a walk through Waikiki looking for a coconut.  A real coconut.  Well, in Waikiki, its much easier to find a TOYS "R" US, or a Starbucks than a real coconut!

Today is Christmas day, and we are still in Waikiki district of Honolulu and still, NO Coconut!
Well, the day is still young, there is still time to find one!

The Gift of The Bell

A couple weeks ago I awoke in the early hours of the Kodiak  morn.  In these wee hours an image came to mind, of a brass bell with the handle in the shape of a Russian Orthodox Cross, a common symbol seen in and around Kodiak as Russian Orthodox is quite prominent.  I didn't think too much of it at the time, but later that day I was at my friends the Simplers house and Bronwyn wanted to show me her new bed.  In her bedroom in a cabinet was something but I wasn't sure if it was a bell, it was so quaint and unique all enclosed within a wooden structure in the shape of blue onion dome and topped with a Russian Orthodox cross.  She said it was a bell and I was so thrilled!  I shared with them my image that morning, and that a bell with a Russian Orthodox cross on top does exist, I went to look for one down town, but couldn't find   any, anywhere.  Arlene and Bronwyn ended up giving me their bell, what a special gift!

I have it with me now, on our first stop: Sea/Tac.  Tacoma, really!  A precious piece of Kodiak.  Where else, and how often does one see a blue onion dome with a Russian Orthodox cross!? The bell is  beautiful and   makes a beautiful sound too.  What a perfect gift to compliment my Yoga practice.

Reality

Ok, so I don't know if people really want to read Holy Biblical Scriptures on my blog.  I put it there so you don't have to go look it up in the Bible.
God speaks all the time. All we have to do is listen. Open our ears and hear. Open our eyes and see.
The other day at church we were singing a song and the words were, "Show me your Face Lord.....May I see your Face...." or something like that.  And just as soon as I read it and sang it my 3 year old daughter came up to me and said to me, " Mama, I gonna do something" and she came up to me face to face and held my cheeks with her hands and squished her nose against mine and looked at me in the eyes, and there we were faces squished together eyes locked!  How true is it that we see God in the face of a child?!
I once heard that "God is a baby!" or that we see God in babies, and truly, don't we?

This is the day that the Lord has Made....

I opened up the Holy Bible to Matthew 6. It was Jesus speaking, all written in red.  He was talking about... "Do not store up your riches in worldly treasures but in Heavenly treasures.  And to be like the lily of the field.....
It is a beautiful day out today, orange sunrise; purple mountains; blue sky...
God speaks to me all day long...I hear the Lords voice....every day.
Thank you Lord for for shining your goodness upon me!
You have done so much for me....given me life and life abundantly;

God is **Magical**!

Oh, Lord, early in the morning do I seek thee.  Early in the morning do I seek thy Face. Align me with the Divine. Align the Divine with me.  Before the dawn I, whilst it is still dark, do I long for You.I ground myself in You ; in your Unfailing Love. In your Foundation, which is solid, as  Rock, in Your dwelling, O Lord, do I live.

Psalm 103:
1 Praise the LORD, O my soul;
       all my inmost being, praise his holy name.

 2 Praise the LORD, O my soul,
       and forget not all his benefits-
 3 who forgives all your sins
       and heals all your diseases,
 4 who redeems your life from the pit
       and crowns you with love and compassion,
 5 who satisfies your desires with good things
       so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.
 6 The LORD works righteousness
       and justice for all the oppressed.
 7 He made known his ways to Moses,
       his deeds to the people of Israel:
 8 The LORD is compassionate and gracious,
       slow to anger, abounding in love.
 9 He will not always accuse,
       nor will he harbor his anger forever;
 10 he does not treat us as our sins deserve
       or repay us according to our iniquities.
 11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
       so great is his love for those who fear him;
 12 as far as the east is from the west,
       so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
 13 As a father has compassion on his children,
       so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him;
 14 for he knows how we are formed,
       he remembers that we are dust.
 15 As for man, his days are like grass,
       he flourishes like a flower of the field;
 16 the wind blows over it and it is gone,
       and its place remembers it no more.
 17 But from everlasting to everlasting
       the LORD's love is with those who fear him,
       and his righteousness with their children's children-
 18 with those who keep his covenant
       and remember to obey his precepts.
 19 The LORD has established his throne in heaven,
       and his kingdom rules over all.
 20 Praise the LORD, you his angels,
       you mighty ones who do his bidding,
       who obey his word.
 21 Praise the LORD, all his heavenly hosts,
       you his servants who do his will.
 22 Praise the LORD, all his works
       everywhere in his dominion.
       Praise the LORD, O my soul.

Each to his/her own

Philippians 2:12, 13
"...continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose".
This is a verse that God showed me years ago when I first started to do yoga. What it tells me is that we each must go on our own inward journey to hear the voice of the Lord. If we only listen to others opinions that may not be what God wants for us.  This is a big world and God speaks to each of us in His own way, just as each of us has different personalities and just as each of us is part of "one body" so God uses us each in our own unique way.  Why can't all the churches get along? Why does one church speak so badly about another, when they use the same Bible?  "Jesus is the same yesterday, and today, and forever" Hebrews 13:8.
Philippians 2:12, 13 is the scripture I have been shown this morning.
Each to his/her own, God will provide the light on the path.

This Day

Psalm 5:3
In the morning, O Lord, you hear my voice.

Psalm 46:10
Be still & know that I am God.

I have started to teach an early morning yoga class at 6 am at my home.  This way, the idea is, that I can crawl out of bed and let my daughter keep sleeping while we do yoga in the new, spacious living room.

This morning I awoke to the dark early hours and who is it that hears me and my thoughts besides mySelf, but God HimSelf!  I go to sit in meditation and wait. . . .  and listen. . . . in stillness of my body and my breath . . . .

What is a Christian Yogini?

A Christian Yogini is what I call myself because I am of the Christian Faith for over 20 years and a practitioner of Yoga for 15 years.  I was first a Christian and believe it was Jesus who led me to Yoga to help strengthen my faith in the indwelling Lord.
